Cherry Casino & The Gamblers: a sure bet on a winning night!
Last weekend one of my favourite club nights, Hula Boogie, brought Cherry Casino and The Gamblers over from Germany and onto their little stage for a night of hot r&b.
I have been waiting a long time to see this band live, and as I predicted, it was worth the wait....those guys owned that stage and played two cracking sets to a packed house!
Fitting the five members of Cherry Casino and The Gamblers onto the tiny stage was a tight squeeze, and echoing this, they had a tight sound - so together in their musicianship, both when they were playing their instruments and singing, and also when they were clapping along to the beat. I loved their live sound, and I also loved the cardi that highlighted the front man in canary yellow!
This rockin' show marked Hula Boogie's 9th anniversary - and long may this tiki-tastic monthly night of fun continue! Miss Aloha and Reverend Boogie never fail to provide a friendly night of awesome rock n roll music and dancing in a welcoming environment, complete with free chocolate (the jive bar: a perfect snack to consume on the night bus after an evening of dancing)!
So until next month, Mahalo, and good night!

Birthday fiancé!
Last weekend, I helped loverboy celebrate his birthday by lavishing him with presents and baking him a delicious cake (even if I do say so myself)! But first, I kicked off the proceedings properly, with the most important meal of the day - a fry-up brekkie in bed (complete with birthday mince pie)...
We had a fun day together, and he was pleased with all of his birthday gifts - including two or three items which will help comprise his wedding day outfit!
My post-Christmas/pre-wedding diet was temporarily put on hold, as I simply couldn't resist partaking in the eating of his birthday cake. Following in the footsteps of the immense German chocolate cake that I made for him last year, I went with a red velvet cake for 2012 - complete with cream cheese frosting and fresh strawberries and blueberries. The birthday boy was happy, and I am now a pound or two heavier!
With his birthday just two weeks before our wedding, this will be his last one as a fiancé...next year I will have to make him a 'Happy Birthday Hubbie' card instead, but more importantly, what cake will I bake...?

Happy wedding year!
Wowzers, time flies when you're planning a wedding! My last post was on Christmas eve, and now that the festive season is over, it's bye-bye mince pies, hello exercise - I've got a wedding dress to fit into!
I had so much fun on Christmas eve, dancing a little at Southbank...and then dancing 'round a friend's kitchen...a lovely Christmas spent with family...and a super fun new years spent with friends at one of my favourite dance nights, Saturday Night Swing. We danced, drank, sang Auld Lang Syne, danced some more, and then tried to avoid all the drunk and disorderly people on the tube ride home!
New years day was the perfect lazy mix of watching back-to-back episodes of Boardwalk Empire (love that show!) in bed with loverboy, whilst drinking pink cava, eating chocolate oranges, crisps and other left over snacks before starting the post-crimbo/pre-wedding health kick the next day. That's right, no boozing or snacking from 1st January 2012 until the big day...that is, with the exception of my hen night last Saturday!
My wonderful girlfriends made sure that my last days as a single gal were celebrated in style (with a large helping of champers and cocktails...helloooooo hangover Sunday!) - I feel so happy and lucky to have such lovely ladies in my life, and boy can they party! Thank you so much girls!
But for now, it's back to making bunting, table plans and centre pieces...and exercising...
