Blimey, it's been nearly four months since my last post! I've been posting regularly on Instagram, so you if you follow me over there, then you will have seen updates over the past few months, but now I think the time has come to remedy the blog silence...
We just had our second bank holiday, three-day weekend for the month of May, and despite the fact that it pretty much rained continuously on Saturday and Monday, Sunday was sunshine and blue skies, which was a good thing, given that it was the Big Kahuna's (half) birthday boat party!
Obviously, when your birthday falls in the winter months, the only thing to do is make like Her Majesty, and have two birthdays. Even the Queen would agree that May is a more appropriate month for boat shenanigans, I'm sure.
So, we donned our Hawaiian and took to the Thames for an afternoon, evening and night of fun, laughter and lots of dancing, aboard the HMS President, which is moored on the Embankment by Blackfriars.
Inside, the President was transformed into a party paradise, with palm trees, fairy lights and all manner of tropical decorations.
The DJs kept the boat rockin', the bar kept the drinks flowing, and the sun kept the deck shining!
I baked a red velvet cake (one of many yummy cakes baked by guests), and tried to get creative with the blueberries. Not to toot my own horn, but this cake disappeared in lightening speed...
Of course, a birthday party amongst dancers is not a birthday party without a birthday jam....two songs, one lead, and many, many follows...
There was also live musical entertainment, including a set by the one and only Black Elvis, who sure did get that boat a-rockin'...
Plus a lot of strolling...strolling...strolling on the river...
Everyone had the most amazing time, and I think it's safe to say that the Big Kahuna just threw the party of the year!
Three cheers for the birthday boy! Hip-hip-hooray! Hip-hip-hooray! Hip-hip-hooray!

With the birthday boy in London's very own Hawaii!
The DJs kept the boat rockin', the bar kept the drinks flowing, and the sun kept the deck shining!
My mum was at the party too - here is a photo of what I like to call the 'mother-in-law-boogie'!

When Black Elvis sings, you gotta get all shook up on the dance floor!

ReplyDeleteIt seems that you spent a crazy time at this party.
Thanks, Laurence! It was definitely a fun time! :)
DeleteWelcome back M!
ReplyDeleteWhy does it seem that London has the best scene for dancing? I'm a bit jealous. <3
W
Thanks Wendi!
DeleteWe do have a lot of dancing here...although I think that LA has a really great scene for dancing, too! Plus, it looks like you are always out dancing in Dever!!!!
Yay!!! What an awesome post to return to blogging with. I love a great, big dose of Hawaiian/tiki fashion and fun like this. Your purple dress is breathtakingly pretty! I hope you've been keeping well and having a great spring, dear gal!
ReplyDeleteTons of hugs,
♥ Jessica
Thanks Jessica! I am indeed keeping well, and I hope you are too! I am looking forward to summer - hopefully we will both get a good dose of sunshine this year! :)
DeleteI swear you two always look fantastic and have a lot of fun! I wish there was more to do around here but alas Northern Nevada is kinda boring. Beautiful but boring.
ReplyDeleteAwww, thanks Mariela! You need to make a trip to VLV next year, that's super fun, and so close to you!!! :)
DeleteThat looks like soooooo much fun!!! And all on a boat! I can't remember the last time I was in London in spring weather since we always opt for the off season. I miss it!
ReplyDeleteOh man, it was such a fun time, Elisa! I don't know why, but being on a boat is always pretty exciting too, even if it is moored! :) You will have to pay a visit in Spring sometime! It's so beautiful this time of year, and not too hot (as I know you don't like the really hot weather)!
DeleteI do like a boat party, that one looked great. Lovely photos of the dancing and of people's gorgeous outfits.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Kate-Em! I wish I could rewind the clock and relive the day again, it was so much fun! :)
