So onwards and upwards, it's time for part three of my Viva Las Vegas 16 posts! Now's the time to catch up with part one and part two, if you haven't already.
We're onto Friday, and it was at this point that we kept marvelling how it was only the second day of Viva, and yet we felt like we had done so much already! Getting there on Wednesday for the pre-party played a big part in this, methinks.
The day started with another long queue at Java Vegas. This is pretty standard, although it felt as though the lines got longer everywhere this year - never have I ever seen so many people waiting in line for a Subway sandwich!
That evening I pulled out the major bling, and loverboy pulled out the major handsomeness, for Friday night in Vegas.
We headed to the main ballroom to check out The Golden West Trio featuring Miss Kay Marie. This was a great start to the evening, as they were super awesome, and boy can that Miss Kay Marie yodel!
I'm sad to report that we missed the Phat Cat Swingers, as I have since heard so many great things about their performance. However, there was just so much going on that something had to give. Instead, we headed to a room party for cocktails! As well as the 'Suffering B-Star' there were numerous Easter-themed drinks on the menu, and as I decided that I probably wouldn't like the peep one (marshmallows = no bueno), I went for the equally festive Cadbury's creme egg cocktail. Yummers!
We were having so much fun catching up with our beloved Bay Area peeps (see what I did there?!) that we almost forgot that we had a show to catch - Lil' Mo and the Dynaflos, down in Brendan's pub.
When we arrived, the band had already started, and the queue to get in was....not moving very quickly. We feared that we may miss the show, when all of a sudden, we started getting nearer, until finally we were inside and getting our doo-wop fix! The hubs and I really enjoyed this band when we saw them at the Rhythm Riot in 2011, so we knew that we had to catch them at Viva.
It was here that we ran into our fellow Londoner, Miss Aloha. I asked her and Aaron to give me an idea of what it would look like if they won the jackpot on the slot machines....here is the result:
The rest of the night was spent dancing and chatting as well as catching a few more musicians, such as the lovely Amber Foxx, who took to the stage as part of the late night juke joint in Brendan's.
Oh! Two of our friends from London got engaged that day!
After minimal sleep, we got up bright and early (by Vegas standards, anyway) to catch the fantastic Pachuco Jose y Los Diamantes at the car show. This band has the songs, the sound, and the style - in three words: I love them.
We danced, we sweat, we bought the CD.
Then the shopping continued when I received a text message, alerting me to a bargainlicious bakelite vendor. After many phonecalls I finally managed to navigate my way to the holy grail. I will forever be grateful to Anne for giving me the 411 on this vendor, for patiently waiting for me to choose what I wanted to buy, and for then lending me the cash when I was a bit short! These are our post bakelite shopping smiles:
It was so hot at this point that we decided to head to the pool, and I ran into my nautical twin.
Once at the pool, I was chatting to the pint-sized perfection that is Haute Rockabilly Fashionista, when a lady came over and offered us her cabana. HRF was heading off, so I took the passes and headed to the cabana with some of the Bay Area contingent. Whilst there were no cabana boys fanning us with banana leaves, there were comfy sofas and free bottles of refrigerated water - and it was worth hanging out there for that alone.
At this point we were feeling suitably rejuvenated, and ready to head back to the car show for the big event: Little Richard! That however, is something that I will save for next time...

Afterwards, we looked at cars...

Wow both you and lover boy sure do look great together. And your outfits compliment each other's perfectly. I can't even get my husband to get into a nice pair of shoes.
ReplyDeleteI love the the metallic dress and nautical outfit! Simply gorgeous. How cool was it to hang out in the cabana? We've always wanted to rent on but it's an added expense that we never calculate in. Can't wait to see the rest of your posts.
Thank you for your sweet compliments Mariela! You did make me giggle with the comment about the shoes! :) Maybe you can slowly, slowly influence your hubbie into a nice pair of shoes.. :)
DeleteThe cabana was great! It's definitely not a luxury that we would pay for, but it was really fortunate running into the lady who gave me the passes!
You both look fabulous in all of your outfits! You are so right about the wait time for everything seeming even longer than before. Seems like all we did half the time was wait in line. I recognize so many people from your photos from going to shows over the years around the Bay Area yet I have only met a few! Funny how that works :-)
ReplyDeleteCount down to the Riot is on! Just 7 months to go!
Thank you Elisa!!!! It is funny that you feature people that I know on your blog, and there are people that you know on mine...and somehow we have never met each other! :P
DeleteYay! Roll on the Riot...although I also have the High coming up before then! ;) xx
Nice photos :). You had great time :)
ReplyDeleteThank you!!!! Yes I did! :)
DeleteLooks like so much fun! I love your cacti skirt.
ReplyDeleteThanks Kate-Em! It is great fun, you should try to go sometime! The skirt was a one year wedding anniversary present from my husband - I had been patiently waiting until Viva to wear it! :)
DeleteI was so excited to finally have a few moments to connect and chat with you; as our Wednesday night meeting was so short.
ReplyDeleteYou are so terribly sweet with your commpliments.
I really do need to get to business with my post VLV blogs before it is much too late.
Also, love, love, love your Friday night outfit! I wish I had gotten to see you in it.
HRF
I know! I felt like we kept seeing each other fleetingly! Next year we will have to get brunch or hang out at the pool or something.
DeleteKeep going with your VLV posts - I love reading them! It is a bit overwhelming writing them though, as there is just so much to fit in!
Thank you!!! Friday was definitely my most bling-tastic night! :) xxx
Ahh sounds like such an amazing time! All your photos look so wonderful. I want to go one year so badly, maybe it'll happen next year. I love getting to see what everyone was wearing, you look so gorgeous in all your outfits!
ReplyDeletexo,
Em
Oh it was Emma, and thank you! You should definitely try to go sometime, I think you would LOVE it! There is such great eye candy, and so many other bloggers attend too! xx
DeleteYou have to stop torturing me!! I was fine with not going this year...until I saw all the pictures and good times!!! Hahahaha!!! At least I get to see all the fun I was missing.
ReplyDelete:D I hope that all this torturing will mean that you attend next year!!!!!!! xxx
DeleteAmazing pictures and it looks and sounds like great fun!
ReplyDeleteThank you Sarah! I was worried that I had added too many photos, but it's so hard to edit! VLV is definitely a fun weekend! :)
