LA vacay by day - Part II

In my last post, I shared some of my sightseeing adventures in LA.  I am continuing the theme in this post, talking about some more of the fun places that we visited on this trip!

We paid a visit to Venice Beach and Santa Monica, taking in the boardwalk sights, and in my case, pretending like I was in an episode of Californication and hoping that I would bump into Hank Moody at any moment...

Our trip was filled with lots of yummy food, although, given that we knew we were going to be laying poolside at Viva Las Vegas the following week, we didn't go too overboard.  We did, however, indulge in pancakes and giant sandwiches at the legendary Jewish deli, Canter's...

We really enjoyed brunching with some of our friends who live in LA...

Of course we couldn't visit LA without doing some shopping, and so we visited vintage shops, a flea market, and some repro brand stores, such as the Pin-Up Girl Boutique in Burbank.

In one vintage shop that we went to, Aaron happened upon a cardigan which had the letter 'A' and the name Melanie emblazoned on it!  What are the chances, hey?  We didn't buy it, but we still got a kick out of it!

We also checked out some antique malls in Long Beach.  There was so much amazing bakelite and other jewellery, that I was like a magpie gazing at all the sparkly, shiny, colourful goodies on display!

Our apartment was a five minute drive away from Olvera Street, so we went there on one of our last days in LA, primarily so that I could hunt for tooled leather wedges...I ended up buying some green ones, which you may have spotted in some of my Viva photos...

In my next post I will share some thoughts and photos about our nights out in LA, which involved a lot of dancing - a great warm up for Viva Las Vegas

  1. I'm sorry, can't process any of the photos as I am stuck on staring at the amount of meat in that sandwich! Seriously??!

    1. Hahaha! I knowwwwwwwwww! It was actually *too much* meat - I only ate half of it, and felt rather uncomfortable afterwards...

  2. That is one HUGE sandwich! It does look good.

I've never actually been to any of the repro or vintage stores in LA. This get to pricey in LA. I love Olvera Street although I haven't been there in a very long time. I love that whole section of LA. You have Chinatown, Little Tokyo , and Olvera Street within 20 minutes of each other.

It looks like you two had a great time. Good food and good company always make a trip much better.

    1. Yes it was like an episode of Man vs. Food! Ha!

We had a lovely time! There were some shops with great pieces that were definitely pricey, but in general they were not more expensive than London!

  3. Oh my look at the size of that Canter's sandwich. Wow, that is a lot of food!

That cardigan Aaron got is so cool. I can't believe that it had an "A" and Melanie on it. I also cannot believe you didn't buy it!!

    1. It was too much!!!

Hahaha! He felt like it was a girl's cardigan because of the side that the buttons were on, so he didn't want it...and it was way too big for me!
